JU teachers demand trial of Avijit killing

Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the banner of “JU Family” protested the killing of blogger Avijit Roy, a founder of Muktamana blog, and demanded a judicial trial to ensure capital punishment of the killers.
Around 150 teachers and students formed a human chain at the premises of Shaheed Minar yesterday at 11am. Speakers here demanded immediate arrest of the killers and bring book under trial while they also criticized the role of law enforcers during the killing.
Addressing the human chain Associate Prof Raihan Ryne said, “The attacker on Avijit Roy are against free thinking and progress in this country and they are the communal forces that stand against the ideals of the Liberation War.” President of JU unit Chatrra Union Tanmay Dhor said, if the killing goes on even in educational institution where we save in my country.
we want guarantee of natural death. Murder of Prof Humayun Azad and Razib Haider was the same incident as Avijit and still now unpunished which leading to inspire the killers, he added.
Prof ATM Atikur Rahman said, government should not avoid the liability of Avijit killing and sated we are living in disable society and fundamentalist are trying to grow throughout the globe and is an evil that tries to hinder free express and thoughts.
At least 12 cultural and social organizations of the university expressed solidarity with the demand of immediate capital punishment of the killers.
Avijit and his wife blogger Rafida Ahmed Bonya were hacked by unidentified miscreants near Dhaka University’s TSC on last Thursday night.
He died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital soon after he was rushed there.  
Among others Prof Afsar Ahmed, Prof A A Mamun, Prof Anawarullh Bhuiyan, associate Prof Ghulam Rabbani, Anisa parvin Jolly, Rezwana Karim Snigdha, Aminul Islam were also addressed the function.
