JU teachers condemn blockade

The Pro-Awami teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) condemned the country wide blockade programme.
They also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the perpetrators who are engaged in terrorism, arson
attack and anarchy across the country in the name of so-called “blockade”
Protesting the violence, around 400 teachers, students, officers and employees under the banner ‘Bangabandhur Adarshe Bishwashi Jahangirnagar University Paribar’ brought out a silent procession from Registrar building premises at about 12.00 Noon.
Parading main streets of the university and the Dhaka-Aricha highway, it ended at central Shaheed Minar on the campus following a protest rally.
They also condemned the crude bomb attack on the Vice-Chancellor’s residence on January 19 and also demanded exemplary punishment.
Addressing the rally, BCL JU unit Secretary Razib Ahmed Rasel said, the BNP-Jamaat alliance has turned the country into a land of terrorism and anarchy in the name of so-called blockade and hartal.
The president of JU Teachers’ Association Professor Khabir Uddin presided over the programme and urged the government to take effective measures and stern action against the patrons of the subversive activities, and also demanded compensation and rehabilitation of the affected people.
President of JU Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahmudur Rahman Jony, Secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel, leader of JU Officer Samity and Karmachari Samity addressed the rally among others.
Dean of Social Science faculty Professor Amir Hossain, Proctor Professor Tapan Kumar Shaha, Professor of Statistics department Ajit Kumar Mazumder, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering department Hanif Ali, and more than 400 teachers, students and staff of the university took part in the protest rally and procession.
