JU Professor made Chairperson of ICOM-BD Nat’l Committee

Dr Sufi Mostafizur Rahman, Professor of Archeology Department at Jahangirnagar University (JU), has been elected as the Chairman of International Council of Museums (ICOM)- Bangladesh National Committee.
The new committee was formed for the next three years in the ICOM-Bangladesh National Committee’s annual meeting on Friday.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Farzana Islam on Sunday greeted Dr Sufi Mostafizur Rahman for this achievement.
Earlier, Dr. Sufi Mostafizur Rahman has played an important role in the discovery of antiquities in Bangladesh. Under his leadership, students Archeology Department of Jahangirnagar University discovered an archeological site in two villages named Wari and Bateshwar in Belabo and Shibpurupazilas of Narsingdi district.
Created in 1946, ICOM is the only international organisation representing museums and museum professionals on a global level.
It is an international non-governmental organisation maintaining formal relations with UNESCO. Within the United Nations, ICOM has a consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.
