The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a rule asking the government to explain why it would not be directed to abolish the system of holding of examination for Junior School Certificate (JSC) at class VIII.
A bench of Justices Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Razik Al Jalil passed the order after
hearing a public interest litigation writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond challenging the legality of introducing of Junior School Certificate examination from 2010.
The court issued the rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why its decision to hold the JSC examination should not be declared as illegal.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond submitted the writ petition to the HC on July 27 seeking abolition of the JSC examination as the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961 did not allowed the government to hold the JSC examination, said Akond.
School teachers are engaged in coaching business due to the introduction of the JSC examination at Class VIII, he also said.
