JS committee to visit Padma Bridge project

The parliamentary standing committee on Road Transports and Bridges Ministry will visit on November 4 the project site and progress of the Padma bridge construction as 49 per cent construction of the Padma Bridge so far has been completed.
The decision came on Thursday while the parliamentary standing committee on Road Transport and Bridges held a 25th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad here.
With committee chairman M Ekabbar Hossain in the chair, the meeting was also attended, among others, by other committee members Road Transport and Bridged Minister Obaidul Quader, Ramesh Chandra Sen, AKMA Awal, Rezwan Ahammad Towfiq, Faizur Rahman, Nazmul Haq Prodhan, M Manirul Islam and Nazim Uddin Ahmed.
The meeting also presented a report on the latest situation of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge construction project and its implementation progress.
The meeting was informed that the first span of the Padma Bridge project has successfully installed on September 30, adding that so far Taka 6,066 crore has been spent out of total Taka 12,133 crore, a total agreement price of the main bridge.
The committee have also recommended for reconstruction of some roads and highways immediately including the Benapole international highway as the peoples across the country are being suffered due to the bad condition of those roads and highways.
High officials including senior secretary of the Bridge division and secretary of road transport and highway division, among others, were present.
