JS committee recommends passage of Nuclear Power Plant Bill, 2015

A parliamentary standing committee on Science and Technology Ministry held a discussion on “Nuclear Power Plant Bill, 2015,” aiming to facilitate the setting up of nuclear power plants in the country. The bill was placed in the Parliament on Tuesday last.
The 8th meeting of the JS committee also suggested passage of the bill after necessary amendments to it through proper scrutiny.
The meeting was held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here on Thursday with its president Dr AFM Ruhal Haque in the chair.
Among others, committee members M Aman Ullah, Morshed Alam, and Ayen Uddin were present at the meeting. State minister for Information and Communication Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak was also present on the occasion at the desire of the committee president.
On July 13, the cabinet approved the draft of the “Nuclear Power Plant Ordinance, 2015”.
Under the Bill, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) is the owner organization while a company, ‘Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited’, will be formed as an operating organization.
