JS budget session begins on June 1

The budget session (11th session) of the 10th parliament will begin on June 1 (Wednesday) as the national budget for the fiscal year (2016-17) to be placed the following day.
This will be the third budget session of the current parliament which will begin at 5pm on the day. President Abdul Hamid summoned the session of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday exercising the power bestowed upon him as per the Article 72 (1) of the Constitution, said a Parliament Secretariat handout. Finance Minister AMA Muhith will place the new national budget on June 2. Earlier, the 10th session of the 10th parliament began on April 24 and was
prorogued on May 5 after only nine sittings that passed 14 bills.
The size of the new budget is likely to be of Tk 3.4 lakh crore with a target of 7.2 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. Muhith at different recent pre-budget discussions said there would be a separate allocation for mega projects in the upcoming budget. It will also have a focus on human resource development, employment, power and energy sector. On June 4, 2015, Muhith placed a Tk 2.95 lakh crore budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
