The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Thursday discussed for withdrawal of VAT on mobile phone handset import.
The parliamentary body has suggested the ministry to take necessary measure after consulting with the finance minister.
The finance minister in the proposed national budget for fiscal 2014-15 has imposed 15 per cent VAT on mobile handset import.
The committee also discussed on Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (revised) Bill-2014 and finalised report of the bill through necessary correction to place it in the parliament.
Committee members State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Shawkat Hachanur Rahman (Rimon) Sharif Ahmed, Sheikh Afil Uddin, Kazi Feroz Rashid and Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia were present at the meeting with committee chairman Imran Ahmed in the chair.
ICT Division secretary M Nazurl Islam Khan and other officials were also present at the meeting.
