JS body for students’ awareness to prevent child marriage

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs suggested for building mass awareness among the students to prevent child marriage across the country.
“The committee asked the education ministry, vocational and madrasa division to ensure at least one-hour awareness session in a week for higher secondary-level students across the country to gear up awareness campaign against the child marriage,” a parliamentary secretariat statement said on Sunday.
The meeting also urged the authorities concerned to ensure the exemplary punishment to those involved in killing of a class-V student Aziza Akhter in a fire incident at Khainput village in Shibpur upazila of Narshingdi on Friday night.
The meeting also finalized the Joyita Tower Construction Project and its overall policy, e women’s training programme to make them self-reliant,
Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Act, 2014 and ‘Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2017’.
The standing committee recommendations came at its 39th meeting presided over by its chair Begum Rebeka Momin.
Committee members M Mozammel Hossain, Fazilatun Nesa and Monwara Begum, ministry secretary Nasima Begum and senior officials of the concerned ministry were present in the meeting.
The meeting also discussed and evaluated the decision of the last meeting.
