JS body for action against Hajj agencies failing to send pilgrims

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry on Thursday recommended the government to penalise those hajj agencies that have failed to send pilgrims as per the booking of flights.
The committee also asked the Biman Bangladesh Airlines to take necessary measures to prevent recurrence of hajj flight cancellation in the future.
The Parliamentary watchdog came up with the recommendations at its 19th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair. This year, the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh had to cancel a good number of hajj flights due to inadequate number of passengers.
At the meeting, the committee scrutinised the Civil Aviation Authorities Bill 2016 that was placed in the Parliament to replace the existing Civil Aviation Authority Ordinance, 1985.
The parliamentary committee also recommended removal of obsolete and scrapped aircrafts from Hazarat Shahjalal International Airport for the sake of security.
It also suggested the ministry to make tourism fair and tourism website more attractive to increase foreign tourists. Committee members Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Prof Md Ali Ashraf, Tanveer Imam, Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Md Aftab Uddin Sarker, Rowshan Ara Mannan and Sabiha Nahar Begum attended the meeting.
