Abu Sazzad :Country’s parliamentary committees have become a tool of protecting personal interest as well as the interest of the government.They are engaged in protecting personal interest instead of national interest, said a study of the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Sunday.The finding was revealed at a press conference at its head office in the city.TIB Research and Policy Department Deputy Programme Managers Fatema Afroj and Juliet Roseti conducted the study covering the time of 9th and 10th Parliament. According to the study, party influence has a great impact on the activities of the Parliamentary Standing Committees. There is no legal obligation to implement the decisions. The committee also lacks transparency and accountability.Speaking at the press conference, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, the structure of the Parliamentary standing committees and their activities are totally politically influenced.TIB Trustee Board Member M Hafiz Uddin Khan, Deputy Executive Director Dr Sumaiya Khaer, Research and Policy Department Director Md Rafiqul Islam were also present on the occasion.
