BSS, Dhaka :
The ruling Awami League yesterday termed the statement of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia given at a press conference in the city as ‘full of blatant lies’.
Speaking at a press conference at the political office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the capital, joint general secretary of the ruling party Mahbub-ul-Alam
Hanif said, “It’s natural that those who were born in the politics through killings and conspiracies would resort to falsehood. They have still been resorting to falsehood.”
The Awami League convened the press conference to give impromptu reaction to reporters over the statement of BNP chairperson delivered at a city press conference at her Gulshan office on Friday. Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif alleged that Begum Khaleda Zia tried to snatch away people’s voting rights by thwarting the January 5 national polls of 2014 unleashing terrorist activities throughout the country.
“At her instruction, the cadres of BNP-Jamaat led 20-party combine started killing people and they attacked and torched a number of educational institutions to foil the parliament polls then,” he added.
The Awami League joint general secretary said, “Begum Khaleda Zia did not participate in the national polls of last year as her ally Jamaat was not eligible to take part in the election. BNP and Jamaat are friends of each other. How she (Begum Zia) could participate in the polls without her friend? She has now been killing people of the country unleashing violent activities as she could not take part in the polls to appease her friend (Jamaat).”
“No dialogue with those violence-mongers,” Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said adding: “There is no political crisis in the country now. What has now been taking place in the country can’t be termed as political crisis. Some sort of violent activities has been going on now. Begum Khaleda Zia can’t avoid, in any way, the responsibilities of the acts of subversion for over the past 67 days.”
