Co-Chairman of Jatiya Party GM Quader on Saturday hoped that his party would become a strong opposition in the Parliament and will defend the interest of the people and the nation.
“Instead of walking to the field of violence, we want to emerge as strong opposition in the House to raise voice for the country and its people as well,” said GM Quader said.
While addressing a press conference at party Chairman HM Ershad’s Banani office, Quader said that Jatiya Party took the decision to be an opposition party to make the functioning of the parliament constructive.
“There will be no Jatiya Party lawmaker in the new cabinet as it wants to play a positive role of a constructive opposition in the House for the sake of the country,” the JP leader said.Party Chairman HM Ershad will act as the leader of the opposition, Quader said adding that Ershad is now quite well and he would take oath immediately after talks with the speaker of the House.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party lawmaker Moshiur Rahman Ranga has been made the opposition Chief Whip of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.
The JP Chairman HM Ershad confirmed the matter through a press release on Friday.
Just a day after the JP Parliamentary Party decided to join the Awami League-led grand alliance government, HM Ershad on Friday took a very good decision of playing the role of the opposition.
The JP chairman said the party will be the main opposition in the parliament with no representation in the new cabinet. He will act as the leader of the opposition while his younger brother and JP Co-Chairman GM Quader as deputy leader of the opposition. Ershad made the sudden decision through a statement sent to different media outlets on January 4.
