Journos can play role for stopping child marriage

Director General of PIB M Shah Alamgir said the journalists could play vital role for stopping child marriage in the society. He said this while addressing a day-long training programme as the chief guest for the journalists on “Ending child marriage, birth registration and child nutrition” held at the Mymensingh Press Club auditorium organised by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).
Ataul Karim Khokan, secretary of Mymensingh press club addressed the function as special guest while Pulak Raha, consultant of UNICEF presented a keynote paper on the topics as resource person.
Rafiza Rahman, senior trainer of PIB, moderated the training programme.
Alamgir said the role of journalists is to build up opinion of the society as well as they should have a commitment to the society as the society aspects more from them. He stressed for objective and responsible journalism. He also said the journalists must have maintained three qualities– honesty, accuracy and fairness. He also highlighted the different aspects of the topics and urged the journalists to make reports and features on the topics in order to stopping child marriage and increasing birth registration through creating mass awareness.
A total of 32 journalists from print and electronic media of Mymensingh, Sherpur and Netrakona districts took part in the training programme.
