Journo Toufique Imrose Khalidi gets permanent bail

A Dhaka court on yesterday granted permanent bail to Toufique Imrose Khalidi, Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com in a case, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed.
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Dhaka passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Khalidi’s lawyers.
Earlier on August 26, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court granted Khalidi an eight-week anticipatory bail in the case, which was upheld by a three-member bench of the Appellate Division on Sept 21.
The end of the bail tenure, Khalidi filed another petition seeking permanent bail after surrendering in the same court on October 20.
Earlier, on July 30, ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan filed the case with its Dhaka Integrated Office-1 accusing Khalidi of acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income.
According to the case documents, Khalidi possesses Tk42 crore in four accounts with HSBC, Eastern Bank, Southeast Bank and Mutual Trust Bank, for which the ACC said no legal source was found.
ACC investigation found that Khalidi has accumulated the wealth through fraud by creating forged documents.
