Hours after a local court granted bail to him in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act, journalist Probir Sikdar was released from jail on Wednesday.
He walked out of the district jail around 1:45pm. His family members, and local leaders and activists of
BNP and its associate bodies received him at the jail gate. Earlier in the day, judge of Cognisance Court-1 of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court M Hamidul Islam granted bail to the journalist on a bond of Tk 5,000 when police produced him before his court in the morning, a day after he was put on a three-day remand.
The court also fixed September 22 for next hearing in the case. While talking to reporters at the jail gate, Probir hailed the role of local journalists, saying their writings expedited his bail. Earlier on Tuesday, the same court placed him on a three-day remand in the case.
