BSS, Dhaka :
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu called upon journalists to perform their duties maintaining objectivity and project truth, saying journalists’ duty is not to identify the criminals.
“The main responsibility of crime reporters is to project the real incident of crimes. On the basis of information, police can arrest the criminals but journalists cannot identify them as criminals until the incident is proved,” he said.
“Crime reporters should work to project the truth for the people,” the information minister told journalists on Thursday as the chief guest at the Annual General Meeting of Crime Reporters Multipurpose Cooperative Association at DRU Sagor-Runi auditorium here.
With President of the association Sabbir Mahmud in the chair, it was addressed, among others, by association general secretary Abu Saleh Akand.
Referring to the demands of the association, Inu said that the present government has decided in principal to allocate separate plots for journalists to solve their housing problems and work is going on for searching lands.
To minimize the risks of crime reporters, the information minister said that the demand for risk allowance for them (crime reporters) will take into consideration.
