Journalist Faridul freed on bail

Faridul Mostafa, a journalist of Cox’s Bazar who had been in jail for the last 11 months has been freed on bail after he was granted bail in all six cases against him by a court.
Cox’s Bazar district judge Mahmudul Hasan granted Farid the latest bail on Thursday evening, confirmed Abdul Mannan, prime lawyer for the plaintiff.
Farid was arrested on September 19 last year from the capital and framed as a drug dealer and had been in Cox’s Bazar jail since then, family sources said.
Farid, 34, is the editor of a Cox’s Bazar-based daily, the Cox’s Bazar Bani, and an online portal Janatar Bani in which he published a series of reports in May and June 2019 on extortion of money from people on the pretext of drugs recovery, besides threats of death to people in ‘crossfire’.
The then Teknaf officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das initiated the cases against him.
Pradeep was arrested recently in a case filed over the killing of retired army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.
Sinha was killed in police firing on Cox’s Bazar -Teknaf marine drive on July 31.
