Journalist Baby Moudud’s 8th death anniversary

Today is the eighth death anniversary of noted journalist and writer Baby Moudud. A former lawmaker of the ruling Awami League and one of the organizers of women rights movement, Baby Moudud died of cancer at the age of 66 on July 25 in 2014.
She was born in Kolkata on June 23 in 1948. Her father Abdul Moudud was a justice. Baby was third among her six brothers and three sisters.
Baby Moudud was a former Chief News Editor (Bangla Service) of the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS). She started journalism in 1967 while studying at Dhaka University.
She was acting editor of weekly Bichitra for a long time. She worked as editor on social issues at BDnews 24.com.
She worked in different mainstream newspapers and news agencies like Daily Sangbad, BBC, Daily Ittefaq, Daily Chitrali, Weekly Lalona, Weekly Ranar, Daily Azad, Daily Gano Bangla and Daily Muktokantha.
Before the War of Liberation, Baby Moudud involved in student politics as a member of the East Pakistan Students’ Union (Purbo Pakistan Chhatra Union).
In 1967-68, she served as a member of Begum Rokeya Hall Chhatri Sangsad of Dhaka University.
In 1969, she led the movement in the streets to protest the assassination of Amanullah Asaduzzaman who was killed in firing by Pakistan forces.
She was also involved in the non-cooperation movement. During the War of Liberation, Baby joined poet Sufia Kamal in various activities to support freedom fighters.
