Jordan urged to take more Bangladeshi male workers

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam Bsc yesterday urged Jordan to recruit more Bangladeshi male workers for employing them in different sectors of the country.
Apart from taking maid servants and apparel sector workers, Jordan can take male manpower from Bangladesh for contributing to other sectors, including agriculture and construction, the minister said.
The Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister made this request while a high-powered Bangladeshi delegation led by him held a bilateral meeting with Jordanian Labour Minister Ali Al Gezawi in Jordan, according to a press release received here yesterday. The minister said that the number of manpower export to Jordan has been increasing gradually in the wake of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and Jordan in 2012. At present, a total of 1.25 lakh Bangladeshi workers are working in different professions in Jordan, said the minister, adding that around 22,093 Bangladeshi workers have been employed in Jordan in 2015. Jordanian Labour Minister Ali Al Ghezawi praised the Bangladeshi maid servants and apparel workers and also assured his Bangladeshi counter-part of taking more workers from Bangladesh. Acting Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Begum Shamsun Nahar, Additional Secretary M Azharul Haq, Director General (DG) of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Selim Reza, Director-General (DG) of Wage Earners Welfare Board (WEWB) Gazi Mohammad Julhas and Personal Secretary to the Minister Muhammad Mohsin Chowdhury also were present.
Besides, high officials of Jordan participated in the meeting.
The Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister is now on a five-day official visit to Jordan. He went to Jordan on August 5.
