Port Advisory Committee first meet held: Chattogram Port to be in top 50 within next two years :Khalid

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Chairman of the Chittagong Port Advisory Committee, said, Bangabandhu has introduced us in the world .

He made these remarks during the first meeting of the newly- formed Chittagong Port Advisory Committee yesterday.
He said that if Bangabandhu was not born, we would not be able to identify as an independent country.
Referring to the Chittagong Port as the lifeline, the Minister said the meeting was meant to keep the port active. The role of the port is vital to keep the economy of the country active.
He said the government has taken the country to a place of dignity. Chittagong Port is one of the four container handling ports in the world. Now we are in the 64th position. We want to be in the top 50 within the next two years.
 Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the capacity of Chittagong port needs to be increased rapidly to adapt the country’s economic growth.
He made these remarks during the first meeting of the newly formed Chittagong Port Advisory Committee on Wednesday.
The Information Minister said that after taking charge of the Minister of State for Shipping, the Port Advisory Committee had requested for reorganization and meeting. He is honest and attentive.
He said that the development of the entire country is not involved with the development of Chittagong port. The improvement of the port depends on the development of the entire region. The world is now turning into a global village.
Referring to the initiatives to increase the capacity of the port, the minister said that the Patenga container terminal was being constructed. Work has started in Laldia. Priority of the Bay Terminal Government has been planned.
He said that now we could not seen no longer in the outer anchorage ships. It’s a natural port. Established several centuries ago. Seven Sisters wants to use this port.
“Bangladesh is now a food surplus country led by the Prime Minister of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. Stakeholders, workers, various associations involved in port handling should keep in mind the interests of the country first, said the information minister.

Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Zulfiqar Aziz also spoke at the meeting.
