A joint agriculture research centre for South and Southeast Asian nations, including Bangladesh, has been launched in Kunming, the capital city of China’s Yunnan province.
The South and Southeast Asia Agricultural Science and Technology Joint Research Centre will promote technological innovation in agriculture sector, according to a web posting of the China-South Asia Expo authority.
Zhang Zulin, vice-governor of Yunnan province, unveiled the plaque for the Centre last week at a programme, held on the sidelines of the South and Southeast Asia Community Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) held in Kunming from June 12 to 18.
Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation to establish the Centre.
“Yunnan shares the same climate and environment as many South and Southeast Asian countries and they need to cooperate to improve the development models of agriculture through technological innovation to achieve sustainable development,” said Zhang.
