The historic Jobbarer Boli Khela, one of the most traditional events of Chittagong and the whole country at large, was held at the Laldighi Moidan in the city yesterday , says a press release. Banglalink has sponsored this event for the seventh consecutive year, and it was a part of a larger Boishakhi Mela which inaugurated on the 24th and will continue till April 26. Boli Khela is traditional wrestling introduced in the early 20th century by Abdul Jabbar Saodagar to cultivate a sport to unite the youth to fight against British colonial rule. Boli Khela can be played all throughout the year but is most commonly played in the months of March and April, or “Chaitra” and “Boishakh”.The 106th historic festival held today in the port city Chittagong and has been organized by Abdul Jobbar Smriti Kusti Protijogita O Boishakhi Mela Committee attracting thousands of supporters on its first day. This century-old sport of Boli Khela has over fifty participants that take part in the game. There were four wrestlers playing in the semifinals and winners of semifinal moved up to the final. And the winner of the final was the champion. The game continued until one victor was eventually left to be declared this year’s champion. Name of the Champion was-More than Twenty Five- Thirty thousand spectators from all segments of society gathered to enjoy this traditional and prestigious wrestling tournament. The program was inaugurated and The winners received prizes from the chief guest Mr. Eng. Mosharof Hossain, M.P. Ministry of Housing & Public Works of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Also present at the ceremony as the distinguished Special guests were Mr. Md. Abdul Jalil Mondol, BPM, Police Commissioner, Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Mr. Shawkat Anwar Badol, General Secretary, Abdul Jobbar Smriti Kusti Protijogita o Boishaki Mela Committee, Mr. Soumen Mitra, Regional Director, Chittagong, Banglalink and Mr. Sharfuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Head of PR & Communication, Banglalink. Diadar boli from Coxsbazar is crowned again as the champion and Ali Boli from Brahmonbaria is the runnersup this yearMr. Soumen Mitra, Regional Director, Chittagong, Banglalink said, “Jobbarer Boli Khela is one of numerous events that prove Banglalink’s continuous efforts to be in line with local culture and heritage. This is going to be Seventh year Banglalink has sponsored this event.
