JnU teacher ‘beats up’ DU students during brawl

A Jagannath University teacher has allegedly flexed muscle in Dhaka University campus and beat up students of the University during a brawl with their teachers at the campus.
Kazi Faruk Hossain, a lecturer of Jagannath University’s Institute of Education and Research, is a former joint secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s central committee. He is a member of pro-Awami League teachers’ body Blue Panel at his workplace now. Faruk, however, said he ‘only tried to stop the students’.

 protesting against a Senate meeting convened for nominating vice-chancellor candidates scuffled with their teachers outside the Senate Building during the meeting on Saturday afternoon. Chhatra Federation’s Dhaka University unit President Umme Habiba Benazir alleged that Faruk took part in an ‘attack on the peaceful demonstration of students’. Speaking to bdnews24.com Saturday night, Habiba demanded punishment of Faruk for allegedly beating up the protestors.
Some leftist students’ organisations organised the demonstration demanding inclusion of students’ representatives in the Senate. At least two teachers and six students of the university were injured in the brawl.
Faruk said he is also studying M Phil in Dhaka University besides teaching in Jagannath University.
