JnU students continue demo over dorm issue

The teachers and the students of Jagannath University (JnU) staged demonstration for the 12th consecutive day on Wednesday by besieging Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and MP Shahara Khatun in old Dhaka.
In the meantime, an emergency general meeting of teachers was held in the university auditorium to review of the whole situation.
JnUTA President Professor Dr Ali Akkas told The New Nation that they would continue to abstain from all classes from today (Thursday until the grabbed dormitories were recovered, and DC (Police) Harun and OC Monirijjaman were withdrawn.
 “We shall also submit memorandum to IGP and the Minister of Home Affairs on Thursday “, he said. According to eye witnesses, over five thousands agitating students of JnU under the banner of ‘Hall Uddhar Andolon Committee’ brought a procession from the campus and blocked the Ray Shaheb Bazar intersection in the Old Dhaka for four hours from 9am by burning tyres and logs.
Afterward, the agitating students besieged Education Minister Dr Nurul Islam Nahid at Laxmibazar for one hour who attended a function at Government Kobi Nazrul College. The education minister assured them of his doing.
 “The construction of female dormitories Begum Fazilatunnesa Muzib Hall and 20 stored new academic building will be started quickly”, Nahid said.

Earlier, the demonstrating students met Shahara Khatun in front of the CMM court whereas she too gave her word to discuss about the JnU students demand with the Prime Minister.
However, the students vowed to continue their movement to reach the goal peacefully.
