The Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU), Prof Mijanur Rahman, has cancelled MCQ (multiple choice question) system in all academic examinations, including Honours admission tests, in the university.
He said the teachers will have to recommend standard, easy-to-find and relatively cheap textbooks for their students.
The decision was taken in the 77th syndicate meeting held at the university in Dhaka on Thursday.
“The decision will come into effect immediately.”
Providing further details, the VC said: “Every student has to write the answers to questions on paper. We took the decision to further increase the quality of education provided here.
He said: “The teachers are not allowed to use multimedia content while taking under graduate level classes. If it is a video or illustrated content, then it can be used under special permission.”
Prof Mijanur revealed that the teachers will have to recommend standard, easy-to-find and relatively cheap textbooks for their students, and the use of reference books will be encouraged as well.
“However, the teachers will not give their students notes, guides or lecture sheets,” he added.
A press release issued by the university disclosed that Dr Abdul Halim Pramanik, an associate professor of Theatre Department, has been reprimanded over allegation of sexually harassing a female student. Dr Halim’s promotion has also been postponed for two years.
The press release also revealed that Dr Nasir Uddin Ahmed, associate professor of English Department, has been terminated from his position over an allegation of plagiarism. The university had served Nasir Uddin a show cause notice on July 9, 2017.
