Female students of Jagannath University on Tuesday staged demonstrations on the campus protesting the rape of a second-year Dhaka University student in the capital’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night.
Around 12:30 pm, female students of different departments gathered in front Shaheed Minar of the university and later held a protest meeting till 2:00pm.
In the meeting, they used various placards’ and posters with written – ‘Want capital punishment of rapists, no punishment wanted rather award death penalty to rapists, etc.
Addressing the rally, Namira Nower of 11 Batch, Finance Department said that gradually we are becoming victim of violence such as rape, physical abuse, mental torture, murder and more which is unexpected in an independent state. It’s our silent protest, look at us as human not only woman. Authorities must ensure a safe atmosphere for women in the country.
Activists, leaders of JnU Chhatra League also formed a human chain around 1:00pm protesting the incident on the campus.
Meanwhile, a second-year female student of Dhaka University was raped and tortured in the capital’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night.
