JnU celebrates 15th founding anniversary today

Maintaining social distancing directives, authorities of Jagannath University (JnU) is going to celebrate the 15th founding anniversary of the university today .
Due to ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, the university authorities cancelled a number of programmes this year. They chalked out some programmes in limited scale instead.
A notice was issued by JnU Registrar Eng Wahiduzzaman outlining the programmes to mark the day.
According to the notice, for the first time, no colourful procession would be brought out to mark the day. JnU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman would inaugurate the celebration by hoisting the national flag and releasing balloons and festoons at the university administration building premises at 9:10am.
Later,the university’s first-ever hall ‘Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall’ for female students would be inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor at 9:30 am. Following the hall inauguration ceremony, a virtual discussion program would be hosted at 11:30 am with JnU VC as chief guest and Treasurer Professor Kamaluddin Ahmed in the chair. Moreover, a virtual cultural program also be arranged by Music department of the university at 12:30pm.
In 1868, Jagannath Roy Chowdhury founded a school, which was upgraded to a college in 1884. The college was turned into a public university on October 20, 2005. At present, Jagannath University has six faculties, 34 departments, two institutes, 679 teachers and13,165 students.It has played a vital role in the country’s history.
Its students and teachers sacrificed their lives in the 1952 Language Movement and 1971 Liberation War.
