UNB, Chittagong :
A court here on Tuesday placed detained member of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen
Bangladesh (JMB) Fuad alias Bulbul on a five-day remand over the killing of Police Super Babul Akhter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid passed the order after a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced Bulbul before the court seeking a seven-day remand, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution)
of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Nirmalandu Bikash. Earlier, the PBI filed a petition with the court seeking a seven-day remand for JMB man Bulbul showing him arrested in a murder case filed earlier with Bakalia Police Station on May 29 last year. The remand was sought to be sure whether Bulbul has any link to the murder of Mitu, said Bikash.
Sources at the PBI said, Bulbul sent a letter to another JMB member from Chittagong jail in May to kill some policemen, including Babul Akhtar, who arrested five JMB men, including Bulbul, along with huge arms, grenade and explosives during a drive in Khoajnagar area of Karnaphuli Police Station on October 5 last year.
Police recovered the letter from a JMB den in Gaibandha and later it reached CMP via police headquarters.
Assistant Commissioner (South) of Detective Branch (DB) Kamruzzaman, also investigation officer of the Mitu killing case, said, “We’re looking into all aspects to debunk the mystery behind the murder.”
On June 5, unidentified miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam Mitu at the city’s GEC intersection while she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhtar, 7, for a bus to Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.
