Staff Reporter :Elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four alleged active members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with firearms and huge ammunition in a drive at a militants’ den on the third floor of a six-storey building at Tongi on the city outskirts on Thursday morning. Tipped off that some members of the militant outfit JMB were staying at the six-storey building at Aouchpara at Tongi of Gazipur district, a special squad of Elite force RAB raided the building and conducted the drive at about 4am, said RAB’s Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan yesterday.He said, a pistol, over 100 rounds of bullet, bomb-making materials and jihadi books were recovered from the militants’ hideout. The militants might have been making a plan to carry out massive subversive activities in the area, Mufti Mahmud added. The arrested persons were identified as Mahmudul Hasan alias Tanvir, 27, Akbar alias Abesh, 22, Najmus Sakib, 19, and Rahmatullah Shuvo, 19. Mahmudul Hassan is the ‘Amir’ of southern region unit of JMB, the RAB spokesperson said.They had taken shelter in the six-storey building before Eid he said, adding the house was used as the training camp of JMB.The arrestees used to live at the house as tenants by concealing their identity and engaged in plot for carrying out sabotage, he said, adding the house belonged to one Jesmin Akhtar.Members of different law enforcing agencies launched massive drive in a bid to arrest the JMB men and trace their hideouts across the country since the most dreadful carnage in the country’s history claimed at least 22 lives at a Gulshan Café in city on July 1. Tanvir, a student of Fishery and Marine Bioscience at Jessore University of Science and Technology, got involved in JMB in 2005. He was responsible for fund collection and recruitment of members till 2014.Besides, Ashikul Akbar, a student of Rangpur Prime Medical College, used to conduct training of the members.
