Jhikargachha UZ Chairman jailed for 6-yr in graft case

A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced a female upazila chairman to six years imprisonment in a case over amassing wealth worth Tk 1.78 crore illegally and concealing information in her wealth statement.
The convict is Sabira Sultana, chairman of Jhikargachha upazila and a member of BNP’s national executive committee. The court also fined her Tk 5,000.

 Court-7 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict under the section of 26(2) and 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act-2004.
According to the prosecution, the ACC asked Sabira to submit her wealth statement in 2009.
When she submitted her statement the ACC found inconsistencies in the statement.
Syed Ahmed, assistant director of the ACC, filed a corruption case against Sabira on July 20, 2010.
