Jhenaidah clothes markets yet to get momentum

The sellers of worm clothes have been passing their days idle as there were no enough customers for their seasonal cloths this season.
Worm cloth vendors said, each of the vendors engaged Taka four lakh to seven lakh for the worm cloths like sweater, jacket, coat, cardigan for women, muffler, blazer coat and jacket and others for the current season.
About 2,200 vendors at Jhenaidah, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, Moheshpur, Sailkupa and Harinakundu upazilas in the district were involved in the trading, they said. Worm cloth vendor Ali Kadam, in Jhenaidah town said, he invested Taka six lakh in the season for his business. “In last four weeks I sold the items for least than Taka one lakh., while the remaining cloths were unsold. Usually the customers rush since mid November every year”, Kadam said.
But the rushing could not be started till first week of December as there was no remarkable cold in the season. The worm cloth vendors like other places are sitting idle for want of clients now, Ali Kadam said.
Worm cloth vendor Mahmudullah at Sailkupa town in the district said, abide shits and pants he had been selling worm cloths, especially, worm jackets, blazing shirts and pants as a retailer. But the sale came down to 25 per cent as the cold was delayed in the season.
Mahmudullah said, usually the people form least and medium income groups are the customers in the second-hand worm cloth markets. But the change in the climate had delayed the season. It had hampered their business much, he added.
Some other vendors at Kaliganj town and and Khalishpur Bazar under Moheshur upazila said,
Samsul Islam one of the winter cloth vendor at bordering Samanta Bazar under Moheshpur Upazila said their business might go better within two weeks and the sale will go momentum in coming days.
The bales of worm cloths bought from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, England and America will provide them profit soon, he expressed his hope. The income form the worm cloth might help run his family, he added.
