One held with gold bars
Border Guard Bangladesh personnel arrested a man along with 14 gold bars weighing 1.4 kilograms worth Tk 63 lakhs raiding Baroanchra under Benapole port police station on August 18, a press release of 49 Border Guard Battalion said. The arrestee is Kadar Ali,50 of Daulatpur under Benapole port police station. A case has been lodged with Benapole port police station in this connection.
Baby dies falling from rooftop
A 5- year old child died after falling from the rooftop of a building at Durgapur Masterpara under Monirampur upazila in absence of his parents on Saturday.
The dead was identified as Mushfiqur Rahman Saad, 5, the only son of
Anwar Hossain, a homeopathic doctor and Sajeda Begum, teacher, Lauri Secondary School under the upazila. Lucky Khandaker, neighbour of the dead told newsmen that observing the incident of falling off the child from the rooftop of a four-story building nearby her residence she rushed to the spot and found the baby dead along with others of the area at around 12 noon.
Locals told that the baby went to the rooftop of a nearby building in search of the baby’s friend after his parents went to their respective working places.
Two JL men wounded
A leader and an activist of the ruling party’s youth wing Juba League (JL) were hacked by the party’s opponent faction following observance of the National Mourning Day on Friday night. The wounded- Ashok Bosh, convener, Jessore sadar upazila unit, Juba League and activist Selim Reza were rushed to Jessore General Hospital with critical stab injuries, Shahidul Islam Milon, president, Jessore district unit Awami League told Newsmen.
The AL leader told Newsmen that the two were attacked by a number of miscreants led Bipul, Shahi, Jisan and Rabiul while the JL men were at the officer of the ruling party near Monihar Cinema at around 10pm on Friday. ‘They, followers of a leader, carried out the attack without any provocation,’ he added. Two factions of the AL announced separate programmes on the ground of Monihar Cinema Hall for Saturday at the same time. Azmal Huda, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that the incident took place over announcing two programmes by two factions of a political party.
No case was lodged and none was arrested in this connection
Woman held for money laundering
Border Guard Bangladesh personnel arrested a female along with a toddler after recovering Tk 7,27,000 from her possessions at 3:30pm on Thursday, according to a press release issued by 49 Border Guard Battalion at night on the day.
The arrested was identified as Shirina Begum Moni, 35, wife of Akkas Ali of Boalia Bazar under Benapole port police station in Jessore.
The BGB personnel led by Subedar Shafiqur Rahman made the arrest and recovery of money carrying a raid at Benapole railway station area. She was handed over to Benapole port station police, the press release added.
The photograph delivered by the BGB showed that a toddler was sleeping in his mother’s lap which is not described in the press release. What happed to the minor child was not known, too.
