Jessore court sends 97 BNP men to jail

Aminul Islam, Senior District and Session Judge, Jessore has issued an order to send 97 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its front organizations, to Jessore Central Jail, as they surrendered to the court on Tuesday, Rafiqul Islam Pitu, public prosecutor, Jessore confirmed the information.
The PP told journalists that the BNP men were in 6 week interim bail till Tuesday. ‘The court sent them to the jail as they surrendered before it as soon as the date was over,’ he added.
Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary, Jessore District Unit BNP told that the BNP men including Khairuzzaman Madhu, President, Sharsha upazila unit BNP, Jahurul Islam, President, Chaugachha upazila unit of the party, Moshiar Rahman Moshi, executive member, district unit, Golam Haider Dablu, general secretary, BNP, Abhaynagar upazila unit, Ehsanul Haque Munna, president, Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, youth wing of the party, Tamal Ahmed, general secretary, Nazmul Hasan Babul, president, district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP and Faruk Hossaian, president, Jessore town unit, JCD, were sent to Jessore Central Jail in a fabricated cases as part of the government’s repression on opposition party men. ‘We demand immediate release of the BNP men,’ he added.
The PP told that there are nine cases in nine police stations against the BNP men. ‘They were granted interim bail for six weeks by the High Court,’ he added.
DC given memorandum for protection of trees on Jessore Road: Committee to Develop Jessore Road and Protecting Tree has handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding not to harm the trees on Jessore- Benapole Highway which is known as Jessore Road.
The memorandum was handed over to the deputy commissioner after holding a rally on the premises of the office of deputy commissioner on Tuesday noon.
In the memorandum, the committee stated that the government should develop the road without felling the ancient trees on the road. ‘There are 40-60 feet of land of the department of roads and highways. The road can easily be developed by using the area,’ they added.
Azizul Haque Moni, convener of the committee, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, politbureau member, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Anil Biswas, Mahubub Alam Bachchu, Zillur Rahman Bhitu and other leaders of the committee attended the programme.
Receiving the memorandum, Abdul Awal, deputy commissioner, Jessore told that leaving the tree uncut development of the road is possible.
