A local leader of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod) was shot to death by unidentified miscreants in Baganbari Swarighat area adjacent to Islambagh in Old Dhaka on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Manzur Hossain, 28, son of late Moslem Matbar, hailing from Zianagar of Keraniganj, also president of Ward No 28 unit under Lalbagh thana of Jasod.
Muradul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said that a gang of miscreants picked him up from Chawkbazar area around 7:30 pm.
Later, they shot and stabbed him indiscriminately in Baganbari Swarighat area, leaving him critically injured.
The injured was rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Later, the body was taken to Keraniganj at night.
As the incident took place under Chawkbazar Police Station, the body was brought back to the police station, said the OC. The OC also said that Manzur was accused in several cases including five cases in Chawkbazar Police Station.
