Japan to extend coop for dev of education

Japanese Senior Vice-Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Yoshitaka Sakurada called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Wednesday at the latter’s office of the university.
Senior Deputy Director-General of Science and Technology Policy Bureau of Japan Dr Kishimoto Yasuo, Unit Chief Mao Iwai, Secretary to the Senior Vice-Minister Takashi Nakagawa and First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh Ryoji Tsuge were also present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interests specially possibilities of strengthening bilateral and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Japan in the fields of higher education and research.
They also stressed the need for strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes on various issues including information and communication technology which are being conducted by the University of Dhaka and the higher educational institutions in Japan.
Japanese minister assured the VC to extend their all out cooperation for development of education and research activities of DU. He also said that their technical supports and financial assistance to socio-economic development of Bangladesh would be continued.
He further said that Japanese government would provide more scholarships for DU students in Japan.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the Japanese people and media for their outstanding supports and cooperation in our Liberation War in 1971. He also said that bi-lateral and friendly relationship between the two countries have been prevailing for long time.
The VC expressed the hope that friendly ties between the two nations will be strengthened in the days to come.
