A five-member delegation led by Junichi Shimizu, Managing Director of Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange Department of the Japan Foundation, Japan called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on Sunday.
During the meeting, the delegation members underscored the need for increasing the capacity of the Japan Study Centre at DU.
They focused on dissemination of Japanese language, literature, culture and sports, science and technology to Bangladesh. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Siddique thanked the guests for their visit to DU.
He acknowledged the support of Japanese people and mass media during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
Cultural bondages, he said, can play an effective role to bring the peoples of the two countries closer.
He said mutual cooperation between Japan Foundation and Dhaka University would enhance the scope of studies of Japanese language and culture in Bangladesh.
