The Sanaton community today celebrated Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna, with due religious fervour, festivity and enthusiasm in the city.
The district and city units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) with assistance of district administration and Hindu Kallyan Trust chalked out colorful programmes to celebrate the occasion.
The programmes included Mangal Shovajatra, discussion on Lord Krishna and religious rituals, special prayers seeking divine blessings for continuous peace, welfare and prosperity of the nation and humanity.
Special prayers, puja and recitation from the holy Sreematbhagabat Geeta were arranged and Krishna Bandana offered at mandirs, temples and houses and Prasads were distributed among devotees.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the pre-Mangal Shovajatra discussion jointly arranged by the district and city units of BPUP at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest.
Presided over by President of district unit of BPUP Shree Ajoy Prasad Babon, General Secretary of Rangpur city unit of BPUP Advocate Prashant Kumar Roy moderated the discussion. General Secretary of district unit of BPUP Shree Dhiman Bhattacharya delivered a welcome speech. President of Rangpur city unit of BPUP and Ward Councilor (Ward No-4) of Rangpur City Corporation Haradhan Roy Hara addressed as the keynote discussant.
