Janmashtami, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, was celebrated on Thursday with due festivity and enthusiasm in the district.
On the occasion, different Hindu religious organizations chalked out elaborate programmes in the district.
To mark the day, a colorful procession was brought out and paraded the main streets of the district numbers of Hindu religious leaders and devotees took part.
A discussion meeting was held at Kalibari organaized by Manikganj
district Puja udjapan Parishad, was presided over by Advocate Ashim Kumar Biswas, President of the organization.
Another was held at Shibbari organized by Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, was presided over by Bashudeb Saha.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Jamalpur District unit and ‘Sri Sri Radha Mohan Jio Mondir’ jointly organized elaborate programmes to mark the day.
Treasurer of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Jamalpur District unit, Subal Chandra Das said the day began with recitation from the holy Geeta at 7 am.
He said Hindu community celebrated the day amid peaceful atmosphere.
To mark the day a colourful procession was brought out from ‘Doyamyee Mondir’ premises in the town.
State Minister for Textile and Jute, Mirza Azam led the procession as the chief guest.
The other programmes of the day included Krishna Puja, recitation of
Geeta, Arati, discussion meeting, cultural shows and distribution of sweets among the devotees.

The day’s programme started with Janmashtami procession started at 10 am from the ISCKON Temple at Datterhat of Sadar upazila paraded the main street and went to the Ram Thakur Ashram at Maijdee Bazar and returned to ISCKON Temple again.
Earlier, a discussion meeting was held where Subrata Kumar Dey, Additional District Magistrate, Nurul Islam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi officer and Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, ASP of Noakhali expressed their greetings in a discussion meeting to all citizens of the country on this occasion.

Dozens of colourful rallies, ‘Mangal Shovajatra’, discussions on Lord
Krishna and religious rituals were arranged and special prayers offered seeking divine blessings for continuous peace, welfare and prosperity of the nation and whole humankind.
Thousands of the Hindu people of all ages, attired in traditional dresses, participated in the ‘Mangal Shovajatra’ carrying idol of Lord Krishna, colourful banners and festoons to mark the auspicious day.

‘Sreematbhagabat Geeta’ and Krishna Bandana were offered at mandirs, temples and houses and ‘Prasads’ were distributed among the devotees with due religious rituals.
In Rangpur city, the district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) with district administration and Hindu Kallyan Trust chalked out programmes in celebrating the auspicious occasion.
President of district unit of BPUP and Trustee of Hindu Kallyan Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick ignited ‘Mangal Pradeep’ at Rangpur Dharmoshava Mandir in the morning to launch the celebration.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Khondker Golam Faruk inaugurated the discussion at Town Hall auditorium in the afternoon with Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick in the chair.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Janmashtami, the birthday celebration of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindus community, was celebrated in all the seven upazilas in the district on Thursday with due religious fervor and much enthusiasm.
According to the Hindu belief the Lord Krishna came on the earth to destroy evil to establish truth and justice. So the teachings of Krishna are very important to establish peace and prosperity in the trouble-torn world. His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.

A discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Puja Utjapon Parishad (BPUP), district unit, was held on the premises of the V-AID Road Kalibari Temple of the town here yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest and Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashraful Islam and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests while president of BPUP, district unit, Ranajit Bakshi Surjya presided over the meeting.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan, member secretary of Zila Nagarik Committee Farhad Abdullah Harun Bablu, adviser of Gaibandha Press Club Gobinda Lal Das and general secretary of BPUP, district unit Principal Paresh Chandra Sarker.
Speaking on the occasion, DC M. Abdus Samad said the communal harmony in the country is excellent as the Hindus and the Muslims live together here peacefully decades after decades.
He also urged all to work unitedly to help the government turn the country a middle income one by 2021 through materializing the dream of building digital Bangladesh, a vision, declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
