The theatre troupe, formed by Bangladeshi theatre practitioners living in the UK, staged the play.
India Theatre Olympiad is the only international theatre festival of its kind in India, where theatre groups from around the world are invited to perform and represent the cultural heritage of their own country. Jamuna is a poignant tale of a woman’s suffering and struggles during and after the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The play is inspired by the real-life story of renowned sculptor and war heroine Ferdousi Priyabhasini. Selina Shelly, writer of the play, informed that the play is not a biographical depiction of Priyabhasini, rather it takes ‘bits and pieces’ from her life. with the dilemma of whether to disclose her past life and inspirations for her work or to keep them a secret.
