Staff Reporter :The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed with police at several places in the country on Thursday. The clashes took place when the Jamaat-Shibirmen brought out processions as part of their countrywide programme marking the first anniversary of Jamaat leader Quader Mollah’s execution. Jamaat observed the day as ‘judicial killing day’. A chase and counter-chase between the Jamaat-Shibirmen and the police took place at Palashbari upazila in Gaibandha when the Jammat-Shibirmen brought out a procession in the upazila headquarters. Police dispersed the procession. Several vehicles were vandalized at that time. Police fired at least 50 rounds of short gun and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. The Jamaat-Shibirmen also threw brick bats at the police. Some Shibir activists were injured in police attack. The vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Gaibandha Road remained halted for about one hour during the clash. The Jamaat-Shibirmen also brought out processions at Mirpur, Khilgaon and Gulistan’ Nayabazar in the city. However, the processions were sudden and for short time. Police dispersed the procession at Nayabazar by charging batons. At the time, seven people were injured and three were arrested. Jamaat-Shibirmen brought out processions in several other parts of the country. Meanwhile, Quader Mollah’s family members arranged a press conference in the auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Association. The family members alleged that Quader Mollah was the victim of “judicial killing”. “The government killed my father by not providing proper legal support. Even we were deprived of attending his Namaz-e-Janaza.” said Hasan Jamil, elder son of Quader Mollah.
