Cumilla arson cases: Jamaat leader Taher sent to jail

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central leader Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher was sent to jail here on Wednesday noon in two cases filed over the killing of eight people in an arson attack in Chouddhagram upazila.
District and Session’s Court Judge Md Ali Akbar passed the order when Taher, the prime accused in the cases, surrendered before his court seeking bail.
The Jamaat leader turned up after remaining absconding for long.
Eight people were killed and 20 others injured when a petrol bomb was hurled at a bus at Jagmohanpur in Chouddagram upazila on February 3, 2015 during the BNP-led alliance’s movement.
Later, two cases — one for killing and the other under the Explosive Substances Act — were filed over the incident.
