Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at ITC Maurya Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi.
The broad parameters of bilateral relations came up for discussion between Hasina and Jaishankar, MEA sources said.
Emerging from the meeting with Hasina, Jaishankar took to Twitter saying “Delighted to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh this evening.”
In a separate post, he said “The warmth and frequency of our leadership level contacts is a testimony to our close neighborly partnership.”
This was Hasina’s first official engagement hours after reaching Delhi from Dhaka on a four-day state visit.
The Hasina-Jaishankar meeting came a day ahead of formal delegation-level talks between the Bangladesh PM and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11am when boosting cooperation in areas of trade, energy, connectivity and river water sharing are expected to dominate the conversations between the two sides.
Modi will host a lunch for Hasina on September 6 and the visiting PM will call on Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
