The historic Jail Killing Day was celebrated in Kapasia Upazila in with due respect on Saturday.
On this occasion, a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil was organised by Kapasia Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad.
Former speaker Alhaj Md Bazlur Rashid Mollah chaired the meeting and the programme was presided over by Upazila Awami League President and former MP freedom fighter Muhammad Shahidullah.
Former Deputy Commander Mohammad Siraj Uddin Master, Halim Master, Akram Hossain, Sheikh Abul Hossain, Manjurul Haque Mukul and 11 Union commanders spoke among others. .
About three hundred freedom fighters were present at the function.
Jail killing Day was celebrated in different unions including Taragaon, Tok, Raid, Durgapur.
Meanwhile, discussion meeting and prayers were held on the occasion of atn the party’s temporary office organized by Upazila Agriculture Cooperation.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Leaders of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies on Saturday said killing of four national leaders at Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday in 1975 after assassination of Bangabandhu aimed at eliminating Bangladesh.
They made these observations at a discussion arranged at district AL office in Betpotti area of the city in observance of the Jail Killing Day.
The district and city units of AL, its associate bodies, including Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), chalked out day-long programmes in observance of the Day in a befitting manner to pay due homage and respect to the four heroic national leaders.
The programmes included hoisting of the national and party flags at half-masts, wearing black badges, placing of wreaths at portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, mourning processions, Milad Mahfils and discussions.
Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed presided over the discussion.
Treasurer of district AL Abul Kashem, its Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Organising Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, Publicity and Publication Secretary Rosy Rahman, Women Affairs Secretary Latifa Shawkat, President of district Mohila AL Mortuza Mansur, its General Secretary Advocate Zakia Sultana Choite, among others, addressed.
Besides, leaders of the district and city units of AL, Jubo League, Swechchasebak League, Sramik League, Krishak League, Chhatra League and other associate bodies spoke.
The speakers said the nation and its independence would not be safe without ensuring exemplary punishments to absconding killers of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, war criminals, bomb attackers and conspirators.
Abul Kashem said the killers wanted to reverse history of the nation by destroying AL through killing of four national leaders after assassinations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed called upon leaders and AL and its associate bodies for working unitedly to build a middle income nation by 2021 and a developed Bangladesh by 2041, to realise the dream of Bangabandhu and four national leaders.
