The historical and century old traditional wresting event of the port city popularly known as Jabbarer Boli Khela (wrestling) was held at Laldighi maidan in the city yesterday .
this was the 109th event of the wrestling .
The Boishaki Mela centring the Jabbarer Boli Khela also begins in the Laldighi area covering the space about 2 kilometers around Laldighi. The Mela will continue upto Thursday next.
A mela committee sources said the first competition of wrestling of Abdul Jabbar begins in 1909 during British regime.
It became a traditional culture of Chittagong in more than hundred years. City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin attended the inauguration of Boli Khela as chief guest while the Police commissioner of Chittagong Iqbal Bahar was the formal inaugurator of the competition.
Organiser of the mela committee Councilor Jaharlal Hazari told that more than hundred wrestlers across the country registered their name for competing the wrestling.
While visiting the mela it was witnessed that different types of household products like pottery, cane, earthen , handmade wooden furnitures and cane & bamboo products , toy for children, sweat items, food products were exhibited in the fair brought from different parts of te country for sale . Seasonal fruits also seen in the vendors stalls.
