Faruk Ahmed alias Panama Faruk, a cadre on Jubo League was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion on Monday early morning at Chawak Bazaar area, the main commercial area of Barisal city.
Captain Abul Bashar, Officer (Operation) of RAB-8, said RAB intensified vigilances after injury of a detective branch constable at Rupatali check post in the city entrance point by miscreants on Sunday noon.
As a part of that vigilances check posts were opened at different part of the city including Chawker Pol area under command of Nazir Hossain Faruki, deputy assistant director of RAB-8. Seeing a group of youths advancing towards Chawker Pol, RAB challenged and asked them to top for searching.
However the youths ignoring the RAB order tried to assault and opened fire on the law enforcers and both sides engaged in ‘gun fight’ at about 6:15 am. The miscreants then managed to flee from the scene at about 6:30 am leaving one dead body later identified by the locals as Panama Faruk, Jubo League cadre and one of the top terror in the city, Captain Bashar added.
