Ivy’s brother, nephew among 17 sued over clash after 3 years

A Jubo League leader has filed a case against 17 people with a Narayanganj court over a clash which took place between hawkers and the followers of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy during an eviction drive three years ago.
Niazul Islam Khan, also a trader, filed the case with the Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun on Monday.
The accused include Ivy’s younger brother and city Jubo League general secretary Ahammed Ali Reza Uzzal, nephew Minajul Quadir Mimon, district AL organising secretary and contractor Abu Sufian, councillors Asit Baran Biswas, Maksudul Alam Khorshed, Kabir Hossain and Hannan Sarker, city Jubo League vice-president and contractor Quamrul Huda Babu and Jubo Dal leader Sarker Alam.
Accepting the allegation, the court asked the officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station to probe it, fixing March 22 next for the next hearing, said Court Inspector M Asaduzzaman.
At least 50 people, including seven policemen and five journalists, were injured in the clash between hawkers and the followers of the NCC mayor during the eviction drive at Chashara intersection of the city on January 16, 2018.
Niazul was also injured in the clash and his pistol went missing.
