The National Final of Get in the Ring – a Global Startup Competition where promising start-ups of different public and private universities of Bangladesh fight to fly to Global Meet Up, was held on Saturday at Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon Ball Room in the capital.
Rakibur Rahman and Shariar Al Mamun of `Eshara’ a project working with Bangla Sign Language for physically challenged people won the championship of National Final of Get in the Ring-2019, Bangladesh beating 11 other competitors.
Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF Bangladesh) and RTV were the organizing partner of the event.
State Minister of ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP was the chief guest. Dr Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University (DIU) presided over the program. Niaz Rahim, Group Director of Rahim Afrooz Bangladesh, Dr Nazmul Hossain , Country Representative, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF Bangladesh), Syed Ashik Rahman, CEO Rtv, Andreas Hartmann, Head, Development Cooperation, Federal Republic of Germany, Dhaka were present as the special guests.
The Judges Panel comprised with Kazi M Aminul Islam, Former Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Authority, Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Hossain Khaled, Managing Director (Auto mobiles and Real Estate Division ) of Anwar Group of Industries, Md. Tarek Uddin, Senior Vice President, Premier Bank Ltd and Nayeema Imam Chowdhury, Women Leadership and Gender Specialist of St Francise Xiavier University of Canada,
 DIU is the national host of this international competition known as the Olympic for start-ups. This is for the second time Get in the Ring competition organized by DIU. Earlier in 2015, DIU organized this competition for the first time in the country
State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that we have to build ourselves as a brilliant nation in global arena. Because, the battle of merit is now underway in the world, rather than arms. That’s why our prime minister has emphasized on ICT and set the goal to build Digital Bangladesh.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak also said that Bangladesh government is trying to build a merit based and technology oriented generation and DIU helps to fulfil that purpose through arranging this kind of international program Get in The Ring.
Palak also said, if we want to make more entrepreneurs, we have to fulfil four criteria such as entrepreneurial environment, needful equipment, consultancy and primary investment. Aiming to fulfil those criteria, government has taken initiative to make investment guideline, he added.
