The students of Islamic University formed a human chain on the campus in Kushtia for the second consecutive day on Saturday demanding punishment to the killers of their fellow Ulfat Ara Tinni.
Around 200 students of different departments formed the human chain in front of the university’s main entrance around 11:30am.
Tinni, a student of Accounting and Information Systems department, was allegedly tortured to death by her elder sister’s ex-husband and his accomplices early Friday.
Tinni’s elder sister Munni’s ex-husband Jamirul and 3-4 others reportedly went to her house on Thursday night and locked into an altercation. At one stage, Jamirul vandalised the valuables of the house and entered the bedroom of Tinni and physically assaulted her.
Tinni’s cousin Mukhlesur Rahman said that elder sister Minni divorced Jamirul several years ago. But Jamirul has been disturbing the family. He wants to marry Minni again.
They tortured her to death and hanged the body from the ceiling.
On information, a team of Sailkupa police pulled down Tinni in a critical condition. Tinni died on the way to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against 12 people including her elder sister’s ex-husband Jamirul in connection with the mysterious death of Tinni.
Halima Begum, mother of Tinni, filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Shailakupa police station, Officer-in-Charge of the police station Jahangir Hossain said.
Of the accused, police, in a drive, arrested four of than including Amirul, son of Kanur Uddin, Nayeem and Labib, son of Khalil Sheikh, the OC said.
