BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the government is arresting all those people, who speak against its misrule and misdeeds. The voter-less government can’t tolerate different opinions as well as criticism.
He said that the arrest of veteran journalist Shafik Rehman was politically motivated and asked the people to build public opinion in favour of the senior journalist’s release.
The BNP leader said these at a protest meeting arranged by the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) on Sunday in the auditorium of the Photo Journalists’ Association in the city.
JAGPA President Shafiul Alam Prodhan presided over the meeting, while Secretary General of Jatiya Party (Zafor) Mostafa Zamal Haider,
Chairman of the National Peoples Party (NPP) Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad and JAGPA’S Vice-President Mohiuddin Babul also addressed, among others.
Condemning the arrest and demanding Shafik Rehman’s immediate release, Mirza Fakhrul said, “His arrest stirred up the whole country, even the quarters who do not support his ideology. This is because he spoke for the beauty and love. He speaks the truth”.
Mirza Fakhrul also condemned the fashion of arresting Shafik Rehman. “The manner of arrest was indecent. Law enforcers have no rights to arrest anyone in this style”.
He alleged that the government has established a rein of terror in the country. The government stands against the democracy. It stands against the people of the country.
The BNP leader called upon the people to forge a strong movement against the government in the greater interest.
